Lindsay Lohan Lied to Cops About Car Accident: Report

Lindsay Lohan may be in hot water with the law--again.

TMZ reports that Lohan--whose Porsche slammed into the back of an 18-wheeler in Santa Monica during a scary Friday afternoon collision--lied to police who arrived on the scene, telling them she hadn't been the one driving.

While the Liz and Dick actress, 25, was being examined after the accident at Santa Monica UCLA Hospital, Lohan reportedly swore to cops that her assistant had been driving. Her story didn't check out when they spoke to her assistant, who explained that the actress had been the one operating the vehicle. (Witnesses at the scene of Lohan's accident told TMZ that, immediately following the crash, both the Mean Girls star and her passenger climbed out of the car's passenger side.)

If true, Lohan could be held accountable for her lie in a major way. As TMZ points out, it's illegal to provide law enforcement officials with false information. If police choose to treat her lie as a criminal act, the charge will also be considered a violation of her probation for her shoplifting case.

A rep for Lohan could not be reached for comment about the latest allegations against the actress.

Over the weekend, TMZ also reported that the truck driver involved in the accident with Lohan was claiming that members of her entourage had offered him cash in exchange for his agreeing to not contact police.
