Griffin Dunne, Denis O’Hare and Deerhunter's Bradford Cox Join 'Dallas Buyers Club' (Exclusive)

Griffin Dunne, Denis O’Hare and Bradford Cox, the frontman of alt-rock group Deerhunter, have joined the cast of the Matthew McConaughey's AIDS drama The Dallas Buyers Club.

Jean-Marc Vallee is directing the movie based on the true story of Ron Woodroof (McConaughey), a Texas electrician diagnosed with AIDS who took it upon himself to find alternative medicine in order to treat himself.

Jennifer Garner and Jared Leto are also among the cast members in the movie, currently shooting in New Orleans.

After being given six months to live, Woodroof began smuggling alternative drugs into the U.S. to help himself and other AIDS patients. He added years to his life but rushed headfirst into a collision course with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, which was bent on keeping the drugs out of the country.

Dunne is playing the alternative medicine doctor who helps Woodroof out while O’Hare is another doctor.

Cox will play the lover of Leto’s character, a cross-dresser dying of AIDS.

Robbie Brenner and Rachel Winter are producing.

Executive producing are Truth’s Tony Notargiacomo, Joe Newcomb, Logan Levy and Holly Wiersma along with Voltage’s Nicolas Chartier and Zev Foreman. Also exec producing are Nathan Ross and Cassian Elwes.

Dunne, repped by UTA and Industry Entertainment, did a stint on Showtime’s House of Lies and recently wrapped Broken City, the crime drama starring Mark Wahlberg and Russell Crowe. His indie The Discoverers is making the festival rounds.

O’Hare, repped by Innovative Artists, plays vampire king Russell Edgington in HBO’s True Blood and also appeared in FX’s American Horror Story: Asylum as well as The Good Wife.

In addition to being the lead singer for Deerhunter, Cox worked on the score and soundtrack for Spike Jonze’s Where the Wild Things Are.
