Kristen Wiig: ‘SNL’ Is Really Hard to Watch Now

Kristen Wiig (Paola Kudacki/Harper's Bazaar)Kristen Wiig went out of her way to dress terribly on "Saturday Night Live."

The 39-year-old actress played the mischievous student Gilly; Judy, the woman with freakishly small hands on "The Lawrence Welk Show"; and a cast of other characters during seven seasons of the sketch comedy program before leaving last year.

"When people first started recognizing me, they always gave me a second look because they didn't really know what I looked like," Wiig explains in the new issue of Harper's Bazaar. "For a long time it was my job to be an unattractive older woman or a creepy-looking child."

No more. This month, the actress who lists Marc Jacobs and Stella McCartney among her favorite designers, goes glam — complete with hair blowing in the breeze and a sexy bodysuit — in a new photo spread for the glossy.

Still, even though "SNL" kept Wiig in a weird wardrobe for years, she's candid about how much she misses it.

"When I was on 'SNL,' Saturday night was my favorite night," she says. "Now that I'm not on the show, it makes me sad. I don't cry, though. Well, there's a lot of solitary weeping because I'm a sensitive actress," she jokes.

"But it is really hard to watch. Because I know that when the sketch is over, everyone is running around, changing costumes, and at like 2 a.m., everyone's hanging out at the party. It's been one of the hardest things to let go of, it really has."

She's now on to more movies. Wiig stars in a July comedy with Annette Bening called "Girl Most Likely," and in December's dramedy "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty" with Ben Stiller, and "Anchor Man 2" with Will Ferrell.

But nowhere on her schedule is a sequel to "Bridesmaids," the 2011 hit that she starred in and co-wrote with Annie Mumolo. Not that she wasn't offered a chance to make a sequel.

"It wasn't a hard decision," she notes. "We knew during the first one, this was it. We would have made a lot of money if there was a second one, but that's not my goal in my creative life."

When it comes to her love life, Wiig says her newfound fame can make it … a little tricky.

"Some guys are more comfortable with it than others," shares Wiig, who has been dating Strokes drummer Fabrizio Moretti since late 2011, although interestingly he was not mentioned in the article. "I think it has to do with how I react to things and how comfortable they are with the weird reality of being with someone who's in the public eye. You just have to have the conversation about it."
