Despite starring alongside Brad Pitt in "The Tree of Life" and Helen Mirren in "The Debt," actress Jessica Chastain still has a bad case of the nerves when it comes to meeting other stars. Even celebrities get starstruck!
According to New York Magazine, it took Chastain a full three minutes to gather the courage to walk the red carpet for the "Coriolanus" premiere. Although Chastain stars in the Ralph Fiennes-directed picture, she suddenly felt nervous once she spotted Susan Sarandon on the red carpet.
"I can't go in there," the actress, who played Celia Foote in "The Help," told her publicist. "I didn't know she was coming. I need a minute."
Chastain was starstruck, which, she says, happens "all the time."
"I've never met her before. I can hardly speak right now. I'm stuttering," said Chastain. "Every day it's like, I'm on a red carpet and I'm meeting [accidentally hits the reporter's tape recorder]-- Oh, sorry. See? Like, I'm totally nervous."
And it seems the actress wasn't exaggerating about how often she gets starstruck. At the Golden Globes - with the exception of saying hello to former co-star Helen Mirren - she said she didn't mingle with celebrities. And, after meeting actor Gary Oldman, Chastain said she started crying.
The actress recalled meeting Oldman, who introduced himself while she was doing an interview for an entertainment show. "When he walked away, I turned and I was kind of like, woozy, and I tried to continue the interview, but then the interviewer said, 'You have tears in your eyes,'" said Chastain. "And you know when you're trying not to cry when someone says, 'Hey, are you okay? Are you going to cry?' And then I just started crying."
Hopefully Chastain can overcome those nerves, because we have a feeling she'll be attending a lot more awards shows.
