Frankie Muniz vacations in Hawaii following his ministroke

If there's anyone who deserves a tropical vacation right now, it's Frankie Muniz and fiancée Elycia Marie Turnbow. The pair was spotted in Maui on Thursday, walking from the Four Seasons hotel to a nearby luau, where they donned flower leis and drank fruity-looking drinks.

With Turnbow's diamond ring visible from miles away, the couple (who have been engaged since October 2011) appeared to be enjoying their time in the sun, Turnbow in a casual printed dress and black wedge sandals and Muniz in a collared red shirt and shorts.

But it hasn't been all sunshine and rainbows over the last couple of months. On Nov. 30, Muniz suffered a ministroke that sent him to the hospital, where he celebrated his 27th birthday.

It was only seven weeks ago that Turnbow posted a photo to Instagram of Muniz lying in his hospital bed, along with the caption "Please be okay." And Muniz later confirmed on Twitter, "I was in the hospital last Friday. I suffered a 'Mini Stroke', which was not fun at all. Have to start taking care of my body! Getting old!"

Soon after the health scare, Muniz told "Good Morning America" about the ordeal.

"I couldn't say words. I thought I was saying them. My fiancée was looking at me as if I was speaking a foreign language," Muniz said, adding that he was riding his motorycle when he lost vision in one eye. "I'm still trying to make sense of it, but happy I'm alive."

It doesn't seem hard to feel happy to be alive while in Hawaii with the love of his life, where the couple have updated their Instagram accounts with photos of sunset walks on the beach and their whale-watching excursion. But as soon as they leave paradise and return to their home in Phoenix, Muniz will get right back to playing drums and touring with his band, Kingsfoil.

Muniz might have had a rough few weeks, but it's nothing compared with the tribulations his former child co-stars Lindsay Lohan and Amanda Bynes have dealt with. However, the former star of "Malcolm in the Middle" recently shared with TV host Katie Couric his advice for surviving early fame.

"I wanna say, just take a step away. It wasn't until I left the business essentially and moved to Phoenix where I went, 'Wow, that (acting) was amazing, I'm so lucky to have experienced something so amazing,'" he said. "I almost just wanna tell them, just go away for a little bit, get away from the world, get away from the photographers and the people following you around and find yourself and maybe you'll be happier."

Muniz and Turnbow have experienced their own media scandal in the past, after the police were called to their home in 2011 and rumours surfaced that Muniz abused his fiancée and held a gun to his own head. But now, Muniz seems to be taking his own advice and getting away from it all. Let's hope it works and his health scares are over.
