Anderson Cooper Is Latest ‘Swatting’ Victim, as Crime Trend Moves East: Report

The swatting trend -- or, the placing of emergency calls to initiate police crisis response -- has moved east, as Anderson Cooper is reportedly the latest victim.

According to the New York Post, the CNN anchor, 45, was not home last month when police from the Southampton police department rushed to his home in Quogue, New York, following a 911 call that a man had just shot his wife at the location. When they arrived at the Hamptons home, there was no sign of any shooting.

The police reportedly have no suspects at this time.

Omg! has reached out to the Southampton police department and a rep for Cooper, but has not heard back at this time.

Last month, Cooper was one of the victims of the "doxxing" trend, or, the crime of hackers posting personal documents such as credit reports online. The criminals behind the incidents later took credit for several swatting occurrences in Hollywood, including the false calls to the homes of Diddy, Paris Hilton, and Ryan Seacrest.

The police haven't had much luck in tracking down Hollywood's swatting perpetrators. New legislation was introduced a month ago, and cases have been quiet since then.
