Ryan Gosling’s ‘Gangster Squad’ costume gave him a rash

There are a few reasons why it would be tough to live in Los Angeles during the 1940s and 1950s - for instance, there seemed to be a lot of gangs like in the new movie "Gangster Squad" starring Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone, and Josh Brolin.

But according to Gosling, the crime isn't the only reason why he wouldn't thrive in that era. It turns out, the wool clothing doesn't treat his skin very well.

"The wool was quite itchy, so I had a rash," he told a group of reporters about the period suits he and his castmates wore during filming. But ever the professional, he didn't let his discomfort affect his performance.

"I channeled that irritation into my hatred for the gangsters," he said.

Coming from the 32-year-old Canadian hunk, any mention of clothes (especially his distaste of them) will likely send the rest of the world into visions of Gosling as the title role in "Magic Mike." Because as good as his suits look in the trailers and posters for "Gangster Squad," in which he plays real-life police detective Jerry Wooters, well, it seems a lot of fans would prefer him out of them.

PerezHilton got a little presumptuous after Gosling made the itchy statement, titling their post "Ryan Gosling Wants Us To Take Off His Clothes!" and lamented "If only we had been there to soothe the pain."

The folks at New York Magazine took it a bit farther with its headline, even attributing Gosling's attractiveness to whatever unwanted skin condition he may have developed. They predicted "Ryan Gosling’s Rash Was Likely a Patch of Beautiful, Sexy Pustules," which is a mental image that's still better left unimagined.

But irritating as they were, Gosling's 1940s suits are a big hit with potential moviegoers that plan on catching the flick solely for his classy costumes.

"Gangster Squad more like Ryan Gosling in a Suit for Two Hours Squad amirite," wrote @DawnoftheDani.

"just saw the trailer for ganster squad. had to get up and take a lap when I saw ryan gosling all dressed up in 1940's suit attire," wrote @melmerm.

"So excited to see my boyfriend @RyanGosling in Gangster Squad. My man looks fabulous in a suit ;)" wrote @tessacav.

"Ryan Gosling in a suit for almost 2 hours straight. Need to see this film asap," wrote @charlottejm91, adding a photo of a "Gangster Squad" promo poster.

It seems that fans (and probably the film's producers too) are glad Gosling sucked it up and rocked the period costumes, rash or no rash.
