The past is never really gone -- at least, not for "Real Housewives of Vancouver" star Reiko MacKenzie.

The Japanese-Canadian reality star has revealed in a new interview that she would like to move beyond the recent reports that her venture capitalist husband was involved in a  Vancouver gangland murder trial in 1994.

News broke earlier this month that Sunny MacKenzie, with whom Reiko has two kids, is in fact Sun News Lal, the man acquitted 18 years ago of the murders of Jim and Ron Dosanjh, victims of a fight between rival Vancouver drug gangs.

"That was a long time ago, and the story really has nothing to do with me and who I am and who my husband and I are today," Reiko MacKenzie said in a new interview. "We truly have nothing to hide."

When the journalist pressed the reality star, MacKenzie hesitated before adding, "It's really something of the past. It doesn't seem to matter to anyone that is around us."

MacKenzie, a martial arts aficionado and an avid Ferrari collector, admitted that the production company behind "Real Houswives of Vancouver" knew about her husband's past when the couple was chosen to appear on the show. A joint statement from Lark Productions and Shaw Media (which airs "RHOV" on the Slice Network starting April 4) also addressed the controversy.

"We acknowledge the level of interest that has developed relating to 'The Real Housewives of Vancouver' cast member Reiko MacKenzie and her husband, Sunny MacKenzie," the statement read. "Reiko and Sunny married several years after he was acquitted. Today, almost two decades later, they are focused on their family and future together."

As for why she she signed up for "Real Housewives" even though she knew her husband's past could come out, MacKenzie said she hoped to "inspire women to be fearless."
