Missy Franklin has a lot of reasons to smile today. Not only did the 17-year-old from Colorado just win a gold medal at the 2012 Olympics and set a new American record in the 100-metre backstroke, but international superstar Justin Bieber actually tweeted at her.

"heard @FranklinMissy is a fan of mine. now im a fan of hers too. CONGRATS on winning GOLD! #muchlove" the Biebs tweeted to over 25 million followers a few hours after Franklin won her medal.

The message was retweeted about 4,700 times, obviously gaining Franklin a few more fans (@zeyma1998 responded, "@justinbieber now im a fan of @FranklinMissy ;)") and making her the envy of both music and sports fans around the world.

Franklin was thrilled with Bieber's message, replying with her own tweet: "I just died! Thank you!"

Two triumphs in one day? We should all be so lucky!

Franklin swims for Team USA, but since her parents are Canadian, she actually has dual citizenship in both the United States and Canada. But don't worry if you're rooting for Team Canada -- Bieber still has some time to tweet some love at the athletes representing his home country.

On Sunday, gymnast Dominique Pegg from Sarnia, Ont. tweeted: "K @justinbieber I will be competing in the Olympics in a few hours now. I think its time that you say goodluck! #London2012 #TeamCanada :)"

Bieber didn't respond before the qualifying round, but did send his congratulations later "@domiP3gg sorry im late 2 the party. want to let you know as a proud canadian Im always supporting you and proud of you. STAND UP CANADA! :)"
