Brad Smith is ‘The Bachelor Canada’: 5 things to know about him

North Stars
May 1, 2012

Canadian women can finally breathe a sigh of relief. "The Bachelor" has made its way north, and football player Brad Smith has been announced as the first star of the Canadian version.

If you can't wait to watch the hunky 29-year-old this fall on Citytv, here are five things to know about Brad Smith:

He's Quebecois
Smith grew up in very small-town Quebec -- 60 kilometres west of Montreal in a place called Hudson (population: 5,088). He is bilingual, though he went on to study at two anglophone schools: St. Andrew's High School in Aurora, Ont., and Queen's University in Kingston, Ont.

Football is his passion
After becoming one of Queen's all-time top receivers, Smith was drafted by the Toronto Argonauts as a wide receiver and slotback in the 2007 CFL Canadian Draft. He played one game before being signed by the Montreal Alouettes. Smith re-joined the Argonauts in September 2008, but two years later he was traded to the Edmonton Eskimos. He's now a free agent.

His family is kind of famous
Smith is the son of former Montreal Alouettes' president, Larry Smith, who is now a member of the Canadian Senate. He's also the brother-in-law of former Alouettes kicker Damon Duval after Damon married Smith's sister, Ashley.

He's a family man
Smith's role model is his father, and he takes inspiration from his parents'40-year marriage.

He likes a relaxed lady
An active guy looking for fun, Smith is attracted to women who are independent and, according to his profile, "just as confident in a ponytail, sweatpants and sweatshirt as they are all dressed up for a night out on the town."
