Miley Cyrus has announced her engagement to her boyfriend of three years, Liam Hemsworth. But, at 19 years old, is she too young to tie the knot?
Not necessarily -- not if you think about how fast the "Can't Be Tamed" singer has grown up. Only eight years ago, Cyrus was plucked from obscurity to became a teen megastar in the TV series "Hanna Montana." And she was only 11!
If that weren't enough, the singer-actress also proved to be a multitalented multitasker, releasing her first album, "Meet Miley Cyrus," at the tender age of 15. In 2007 and 2008, she launched her first world tour, the Best of Both Worlds Tour, with tickets in the U.S. and Canada selling out within minutes.
At that time, Cyrus began marketing herself as an adult. She took on her first "more serious" role in the romantic drama "The Last Song," which is where she met Hemsworth, whom she called her "first serious boyfriend." Also in 2008, Cyrus released an apology after appearing topless (but wrapped in a sheet) in a Vanity Fair photo shoot. She was reportedly only 15 when celebrity photographer Annie Leibovitz took the infamous shot.

In 2009, Cyrus courted controversy again when she pole-danced at the Teen Choice Awards while promoting her third album, "Can't Be Tamed." During the promotional circuit, in June 2010, 17-year-old Cyrus wore more revealing costumes and feigned kissing a girl on "Britain's Got Talent." At the same time she was cast in "LOL," a film in which her character loses her virginity, smokes pot, and has a lesbian encounter.
But it was Cyrus's personal life that caused the most controversy. In late 2010, TMZ released two tabloid videos of Cyrus: One of the 16-year-old giving "Last Song" producer Adam Shankman (who was in his 40s) a lap dance at the film's wrap party, and the other showing Cyrus smoking salvia from a bong after her 18th birthday.
At her next birthday, Cyrus was again sparring with critics over her drug use when a video was leaked of her saying, "You know you're a stoner when your friends make you a Bob Marley cake. You know you smoke way too much f---in' weed."
But Cyrus has been keeping relatively quiet since 2011, largely spending personal time with her 22-year-old Aussie fiancé. According to People, Hemsworth proposed on May 31 with a 3.5-carat diamond ring from Neil Lane.
Though we wish them luck, early Hollywood marriages haven't proven particularly successful. At the same age as Cyrus, Drew Barrymore wed actor Jeremy Thomas, only to file for divorce 29 days later. Singer Avril Lavigne married fellow Canuck Deryck Whibley at 21, but divorced him three years later. And, at 22, Britney Spears and childhood friend Jason Allen Alexander got married, only to split within 55 hours.
