The Kensington Palace Press Office announced to the world media at 11:30 p.m. PT — that's 7:30 a.m. Monday morning in London — that Kate Middleton was headed to the hospital in the early stages of labor.

The news also was announced via Twitter: "Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge has been admitted to St. Mary’s Hospital, Paddington, London in the early stages of labour," read the first of two successive tweets. "The Duchess travelled by car from Kensington Palace to the Lindo Wing at St. Mary’s Hospital with The Duke of Cambridge."

This is the first child for Middleton, 31, and Prince William, 31.

The Duchess of Cambridge had a rough start to her pregnancy.

After confirming the happy news on December 3, 2012, Middleton was admitted to King Edward VII Hospital in Central London with Hyperemesis Gravidarum.

Hyperemesis Gravidarum is very acute morning sickness, which requires supplementary hydration and nutrients. About 70-80 percent of pregnant women experience some type of morning sickness; however, only 1-2 percent suffer from Hyperemesis Gravidarum. Since the pregnancy was in its very early stages, Middleton stayed in the hospitals for a few days to rest.
