When 22-year-old Jennifer Lawrence won the Oscar for Best Actress on Sunday, it wasn’t only her family (who swarmed her in a giant bear hug as she held her statue) who was proud. Nicholas Hoult, whom Lawrence dated from January 2011 to January 2013, reveals he is “very, very happy for her.”
"I'm thrilled!" Hoult told E! News on the red carpet for his own new movie, “Jack the Giant Slayer.”
The 23-year-old British actor is best known for films like this year’s zombie romantic comedy “Warm Bodies” and 2002’s “About a Boy” opposite Hugh Grant, as well as the darker and more dramatic TV series “Skins.” In "Giant Slayer" (which also stars Ewan McGregor, Stanley Tucci, Ian McShane, and Billy Nighy), Hoult shows off his chops as an adventure hero. In fact, he’s well on his way to achieving the star power of his famous ex-girlfriend.
"He's great. He's incredibly charismatic, but he's also extremely vulnerable, so I think the audience roots for him. They want him to succeed; they want him to have adventure, get the girl. All that stuff,” director Bryan Singer told Entertainment Tonight.
“He's lovely. He's a gentleman to work with. He's a fantastic actor as well so he gives you a lot to work with, which is great,” echoed Hoult’s “Giant Slayer” costar Eleanor Tomlinson.
Hoult first met Lawrence on the set of 2011's “X-Men: First Class” before either of them were household names. Today, Lawrence’s down-to-earth celebrity attitude has charmed the entire world (and we all see why Hoult must have fallen hard for her). Now that Hoult has more opportunities to share his own sense of humour with the world, we’re about to swoon for him just as much.
For example, Hoult recently explained his preparation technique for “Jack the Giant Slayer” to GQ.
“I did think about going out and working the land for six months before filming, and then I thought, 'Well, there's no farming scenes. I'll just sit back and drink soda,'” he quipped. He also recently explained to Conan O’Brien how he wanted his last outfit to be a tiger-printed onesie.
Lawrence and Hoult will reunite on the set of “X-Men: Days of Futures Past,” set for a release in 2014, also directed by Bryan Singer.
"It'll be great to be back with everyone," Hoult said. "I know it's a particularly exciting thing for me on that one is having Hugh Jackman and those guys back because those are the guys I grew up watching in 'X-Men' films."
Since Lawrence and Hoult ended their relationship on good terms, there’s not likely going to be much, if any, drama on the set. And hey, if the rest of the world is lucky enough, it might even reignite these former flames. “Nichofer” fans can only hope.
