Demi Lovato may think "sober is sexy" today, but that wasn't the case a year ago.
The 19-year-old singer shocked fans when she entered rehab in November 2010, later coming clean to "20/20" about her lifelong eating disorder and problems with cutting. But it turns out that wasn't the only reason she needed help.
The "Unbroken" singer reveals in the new issue of Seventeen magazine that she was also abusing substances at the time.
"I'm not gonna lie. I was self-medicating," she said. "I was doing things like drinking and using, like a lot of teens do to numb their pain."
The Disney star checked herself into an Illinois rehab facility after striking one of her back-up dancers during her "Camp Rock 2" concert tour with the Jonas Brothers.
Thankfully, she seems to have put her problems behind her.
"I don't drink, I don't do drugs, I don't throw up after my meals, I don't starve myself," Lovato told Seventeen. "I think it's way cooler to be above the influence than under the influence."
But is she above the influence of Miley Cyrus? Apparently not. The Disney duo has been friends for years and in Seventeen, Lovato admitted they "will always be in each others' lives" despite recent fights. You may remember that video Cyrus posted on YouTube in 2008 mocking Lovato (the "Can't Be Tamed" singer later removed the video and apologized) and a subsequent Twitter exchange in which Cyrus claimed she missed her old friend, to which Lovato responded, "It's just kind of hard to miss somebody that I don't know anymore." Ooh, burn!
"Miley Cyrus and I are strong headed," Lovato told Seventeen. "When we fight it's brutal and we're like, 'We're never going to be friends again!' Then two days later, were like, 'I love you and I miss you!'"
